ANALYSIS OF EXISTING CLASS III ENVIRONMENT STUDIES TEXTBOOK

Abstract

The NCF-2005 recommends an integrated approach for environment studies towards the primary years of schooling. The NCERT brought out syllabus and textbooks and teacher support materials in the light of NCF-2005. We all know the irreplaceable value of textbooks in students acquisition of scientific knowledge, as evident in most countries, including India. Therefore, it is essential to evaluate the existing textbooks for their revision. An attempt has been made to analyse the Class III EVS textbook published by NCERT from the perspective of NCF-2005. The author thoroughly analysed it in order to check its content, organisation, pedagogical aspects, assessment, layout, addressing national concerns, etc. Further suggestions are also provided to improve the textbook.
