Abstract

The study aims to explore students views  about the Science Textbooks developed by NCERT at the Secondary Stage concerning their conceptual understanding. The mixed method research design was used for data collection from 1142 students spread over 23 schools of five states and UT of the country. The study brings students detailed opinions and views on each chapter of the Science textbooks that can facilitate the textbook authors, curriculum developers, and policymakers to reflect on what aspect of the textbook can hinder students conceptual understanding and how those difficulties can be addressed. It is concluded that the students ability to critically assess the textbooks needs to be valued as they are the ultimate users of it.
