Abstract
The ancient science of Yoga is India's invaluable gift to the modern world. Yoga has been practised in the pre-Vedic period. The great Sage Maharishi Patanjali was the master of Yoga. Later, the period of two great religious teachers of India — Mahavir and Buddha further saw the adoption of yogic practices as a way of life. The concept of five great vows — Panchamahavrata by Mahavir and Ashta Magga or Eightfold path by Buddha can be well considered as early nature of Yoga sadhana. In the recent past, Swami Vivekananda's contribution to the discourse of Yoga is well-known. He emphasised on selfless service — working for the good of all human beings. Yoga is a holistic approach to well-being. It has physical, emotional and spiritual dimensions. India is a natural choice for wellness travel because it is a leader in Ayurveda, Yoga and Meditation. India is a ‘Yoga Tourism’ hub, where people come to heal their bodies and calm their minds.
